Community Mental Health Center
WHAT IS THE COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH Center
(CMHC)?
The CMHC is a service provided by Clearbrook, serving adults who are diagnosed with an intellectual or developmental disability and have a mental illness. The CMHC does not require the individual to be a part of Clearbrook prior to the service. It is designed to support the community while providing additional support to the current individuals that we serve.
Frequently Asked Questions (faqs):
1. Is the program licensed? How is it funded?
The CMHC program is licensed through the Bureau of Licensure and Accreditation and is funded through the Illinois Department of Mental Health. The CMHC accepts insurance and Medicaid for clinical sessions. Please contact us to confirm.
2. How does someone get referred into the program?
The referral can come from a variety of sources. The Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) would contact the individual or guardian depending on the type of referral. The first appointment is scheduled within the first week after the referral.
3. What happens in the first appointment?
The priority of the first appointment is to assess the risk and therapeutic needs of the client. A personalized treatment plan is developed with the individual.
4. Where do the sessions take place? How often do they occur?
Sessions can take place onsite at the CMHC office, over the phone, via video chat, or offsite in a comfortable setting for the client. The frequency of sessions depends on the client’s need: daily, weekly, or monthly.
5. What type of therapy methods are used?
Various methods are used based on the needs of the individual. Clients are involved in the decision-making of which methods are used in therapy. There are three systems for session settings: individual-based, group-based, or family-based. The skillset of the clinic is person-centered and allows for solution-focused, cognitive-behavioral, and dialectical-behavioral therapy. Art therapy has also become a popular therapeutic option at the CMHC.
